Why am I here?

I'm in India working with The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (AJJDC, JDC or “The Joint”). They are the largest Jewish humanitarian organization in the world. They've been around forever and are currently serving in over 70 countries around the world assisting millions from both the Jewish and broader communities.
Their mission includes:
  • revitalizing Jewish life globally
  • rescuing and assisting victims of global emergencies
  • assisting the world’s poorest Jews
  • empowering Israel’s future
  • developing the Jewish leaders of tomorrow
What am I doing in India with JDC? I’m here as a JDC-Entwine Global Jewish Service Corp (JSC) Fellow!
“JSC is a year-long, professional opportunity for recent college graduates and young professionals to create a lasting impact on global Jewish communities.” Learn more from the Entwine JSC website here.

I'm working both with Gabriel Project Mumbai (GPM) and the local Jewish Community Center (JCC). The Gabriel Project works with kids in the slums in informal education settings and by providing a mid-day meal to schoolchildren. I am supervising groups of two-month volunteers and you can learn more about GPM here. For the JCC I will be doing programming with the local Indidan Jewish community (religious school for kids; youth camp; holiday camps, services, and events; torah study classes; etc.).
